The Government of India launches three sub-schemes to strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the pharmaceutical sector

As part of the Strengthening of Pharmaceuticals Industry (SPI) scheme, the government of India introduces three sub-schemes on 21st July, 2022, to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the pharmaceutical industry.

 

1. Pharmaceutical Technology Upgradation Assistance Scheme (PTUAS) –

It will assist pharmaceutical MSMEs with proven track records in upgrading their technologies through the Pharmaceutical Technology Upgrading Assistance Scheme (PTUAS). As part of the scheme, a capital subsidy of 10% will be available on loans up to a maximum limit of Rs 10 crore with a minimum repayment period of three years. The interest subsidy will be up to 5% (6.5% for SC/ST units) on a reducing balance basis. 

2.Assistance to Pharmaceutical Industry for Common Facilities (APICF) –

It is intended to enhance the capacity of existing pharmaceutical clusters for sustainable growth. The assistance can be up to 70 percent of the approved project cost or Rs 20 crore, whichever is lower. For Himalayan and north-east regions, the grant-in-aid would be Rs 20 crore per cluster or 90 percent of the project cost, whichever is less. 

3.Pharmaceutical & Medical Devices Promotion and Development Scheme (PMPDS)-

This scheme involves the preparation of study reports on topics relevant to the Indian pharmaceutical and medical device industries. It aims to create a database of pharma and medical device sectors to keeping up with changing global market requirements

 

In addition to increasing investment, encouraging research and innovation, these schemes aim to assist the industry in upgrading to global standards by raising production capacities and boosting research and development.
